If we always lived in summer, then we'd never miss the heat And we could trade our dreaming hearts for a lie we don't believe Like when you jump to one conclusion There's only one way to do it right Well, I don't really know I can't figure it all out tonight I've got a fist full of aspirations I can use To find my way through what's holding me back You know you're never stuck in one place And only you can free yourself Your pen alone rewrites the story that you've only begun to tell I've spending time following dreams down the backstreets into the street When the oncoming force of real life was thrust upon me If we're all just swimming or treading, then we're writhing or sinking I'd rather choose the one that keeps me moving You know you're never stuck in one place And only you can free yourself Your pen alone rewrites the story that you've only begun to tell I've been thrown up against the ropes, but I won't give up hope I won't give in I'll open my arms to failure because I know I can always get back up again I saw this coming from a mile away, but I still let the punches hit me I didn't fight this long just to proceed with what everyone else expects of me You know you're never stuck in one place And only you can free yourself The things that hold you down are held above your head And you must smash them to the ground Bite the hand that feeds and walk away and never turn around When you reach your chosen coast, make sure you write a letter home That says, "I'm not going to drown."

The List 02:28
Last night I made a list of all the things I wanted to do but never did Tomorrow will be one of those days that memories are made of I've had my share of bad days, but I won't let it get to my head Because time flies by and the moments we have here are short Let's make the most of this Things can't always go your way You can't always have the perfect day Tomorrow will be one of those days that memories are made of I've had my share of bad days, but I won't let it get to my head Because time flies by and the moments we have here are short Let's make the most of this Look up from your watch because time never stops Look up from your watch because time never stops

We never thought about it then We were young and innocent We always swore we had a plan But that was thrown against the wind When I'm not being forced to breathe, you might lie here next to me If you could see the world I see, what would you think? What would you say? And would you understand my one tight-lipped demand? When you're driving home, would you prefer from one dead end to another? Could you take just one wrong turn, a leap of faith, one less bridge burned? It's not what you had planned, but it's what makes you happy It grows inside our heads and breeds dependency What will set us free? We never thought about it then We were young and innocent We always swore we had a plan But that was thrown against the wind Replace my car's dead battery with hollow bones and idle dreams In an attempt to make both run a thousand miles an hour When I'm not being forced to breathe, you might lie here next to me If you could see the world I see, what would you think? What would you say? And would you understand? And would you understand? Took one step and crossed the line Bad intentions turned on a dime How did things get to be so fucking confusing? (I'm sorry, I'm not sorry) You said yourself it's nothing other than loneliness (It's nothing, it's nothing) We never thought about it then We were young and innocent We always swore we had a plan But that was thrown against the wind We never thought about it then We were young and innocent We always swore we had a plan But that was thrown against the wind, and it came back different

Don't fucking talk to me with that tone of voice When you have nothing of use to say You're just a victim of your own shitty mindset Your face is all you see Don't fucking run away when I've turned around When I'm too busy watching your back You left me here at the starting line And you got the best of me Don't fucking look at me with that judgmental eye When you tell me who you think I am I'm just a victim of my first heartache That still infects my shitty songs And you, you might think that I am clinging to the past And you just might be right about that But I must reflect that what I see are ghosts and friends who stuck around Alive and well We're all living in the now

If I found book of matches If I lit this place on fire Would you think of all the nights we sat around and time flew by? Would you stare into the flames now? And you wonder where it goes The more that you look to the past, the more that you lose sight of where you are I've sat up many nights just thinking How do I move on? Where did I go wrong? But it's night like this I realize I've known this all along I've got to dream a different dream I've got to sing a different song If I found book of matches If I lit this place on fire Would you think of all the nights we sat around and time flew by? Would you stare into the flames now? And you wonder where it goes The more that you look to the past, the more that you lose sight of where you are This is the first time that real life has caught up to you No, you can't always take it slow Won't be the last time if you can't learn to let go We all step in rhythm while everybody else is out of time If I found book of matches If I lit this place on fire Would you think of all the nights we sat around and time flew by? Would you stare into the flames now? And you wonder where it goes The more that you look to the past, the more that you lose sight of where you are You get close enough to touch the flames, and that's when you get burned When you've spent your whole life waiting, well then what have you learned? In those cold November nights when you have learned to walk alone Just keep your eyes upon the path And don't look back until you've found your way home If I found book of matches If I lit this place on fire Would you think of all the nights we sat around and time flew by? Would you stare into the flames now? And you wonder where it goes The more that you look to the past, the more that you lose sight of where you are
